SOS: Feeling Lost

With so many avenues available, it’s no wonder your internal GPS might be a little glitchy. But that’s ok, author! Everyone feels lost now and then, all you need to do is pick a direction and get going.

Are you feeling lost in the algorithm? Social media is a beast for sure, and the algorithms can be quite cruel. Spending time engaging with your followers is one of the best ways for the algorithm to notice you. Yes, it takes time and energy, but these are your genuine fans who are excited about what you’re doing! Engage with them, comment on their posts, say thank you, and social media will reward you.

No direction for what to share online? Check out other authors’ pages and websites. What are they sharing? How are they sharing? How often are they sharing? Make some notes and focus on you. What do you want your followers to know about you, your work, and your progress? Spend some time each week planning your feed. Working ahead will help clear the fog.

Feeling lost in your author identity? Work on fine-tuning your brand. Figure out what it is that makes you, you! You want your brand to identify your unique voice and your work. What is it that you want people to know every time they see your username? Creating visual consistency is the first step toward building your brand.

No path for your website? Unfortunately, your website is a crucial aspect of maintaining your digital footprint. This one needs to be a priority to get you back on track! Your website needs a minimum of a landing page, an about/bio page, a book page, and a contact page. If you are too overwhelmed with the idea of creating and maintaining a website, consider hiring a professional to do that for you.

Whether your sense of direction is all over the place, or you got a little turned around, getting yourself back on track is important, author. Taking things one step at a time is a great way to get your feet under you and pointed in the right direction. Don’t let yourself get too lost before you ask for help!
